Deputy Chief Accountant
Swissotel Almaty is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Deputy Chief Accountant to support the financial operations of the hotel. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of accounting and tax legislation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as hands-on experience with financial reporting, internal control, and tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure complete and accurate financial information is available for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Provide financial data to support internal users (management, owners) and external users (investors, creditors, auditors).
- Monitor compliance with Kazakhstani legislation in all business transactions of the hotel.
- Control the accuracy and timeliness of financial and tax accounting entries.
- Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for all financial operations.
- Oversee financial discipline, legality of write-offs and recoveries, and proper archiving of accounting documents.
- Maintain compliance with hotel’s Accounting and Tax Policies.
- Prepare and submit timely financial and tax reports to the relevant government bodies (Tax Committee, Statistics Department, National Bank).
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure accurate tax calculations and payments.
- Monitor inventory, asset movement, and the correctness of goods acceptance procedures.
- Supervise the collection of receivables and the timely settlement of payables.
- Ensure proper payroll calculations, budgeting adherence, and financial forecasting.
- Participate in the prevention of financial irregularities and misappropriations.
- Advise and support accounting team members on all technical and compliance issues.
- Guarantee proper use and integration of accounting software, including 1C, Opera, Micros, MC.
- Ensure proper internal controls and adherence to the hotel’s business processes and workflow regulations.
- Maintain equipment and software tools in operational condition.
- Ensure a structured handover of responsibilities in case of departure from the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Accountant and Director of Finance.
Accountability:
The Deputy Chief Accountant bears personal responsibility for:
- Failure to perform (or improper performance of) official duties, in accordance with the labor legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Any administrative, civil, or criminal offenses committed during work.
- Material damage caused to the company, within the framework of current legal regulations.
Qualifications
Higher professional education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality or service industry.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of Kazakhstani accounting and tax legislation.
- Proficient in financial reporting under IFRS and national accounting standards.
- Experienced in preparing statutory financial statements and submitting reports to government agencies.
- Skilled in the use of accounting software, especially 1C 8.2, MS Office (Excel, Word), СОНО, and hotel systems (Opera, Micros, MC).
- Strong understanding of internal controls and document management processes.
- Ability to organize and lead a team, communicate effectively, and solve complex problems.
- Familiarity with payroll, asset management, and inventory control processes.
- Attention to detail, integrity, and high ethical standards.
