DayGuest

DayGuest.com is an upcoming online hotel booking portal…for day use. Yeah, we sell luxury hotels rooms for the day or a few hours. A somehow controversial but very fun niche to be in.

Our positioning: a trendy, lifestyle product.

Five full time members currently constitute the team. Everybody is teleworking though (from Europe and Asia), except the founder who is based in a Paris loft (startups do that). You will be working with him, cruising along for our launch and first few months live. Our target market is the U.S., primarily New York. Next are Canada and Spain.

MUST:
  • You are proactive, hungry, maybe even foolish, have a sense of humor and above all, you are extremely meticulous. You are a self-starter (don’t need a momma to nurture you) and analytical. You are eager to learn (i.e. not stubborn though you must be opinionated) and you learn fast. Some might say we are looking for a natural born entrepreneur but we like to think that we are simply looking for someone who is willing and able to get things done.
  • You are studying at one of these grandes écoles we posted this job description at, preferably not just for a 1-2 year master’s degree. If you aren’t and hacked your way to their job postings, more glory to you, but you’ll only be considered if you have extremely relevant experience.
  • You must be fluent in English (oral and written), it doesn’t matter whether you speak another language or not (most of your interactions will be in English); (fluent) Spanish could be useful though. Perfect command of MS Office, Windows environment, Skype,  Google Docs.
BONUS POINTS:
  • You are CRAZY about entrepreneurship and new tech / the web. Your unique goal in life is to move to the Silicon Valley some day, be selected for techstars or the YCombinator and funded by Sequoia. Only then will you consider boring stuff other people want in life (like getting married or kids). You read daily techchrunch (US), famous VCs’ blogs. SEO/SEM have no secret for you. You do virtual cohort analysis in your dreams. You read Four Steps to the Epiphany 7 times. You maintain a facebook fan page with gazillions of likers and a Pinterest and Twitter account. And hopefully, all this before watching The Social Network.
  • Previous experience working in online marketing, online/offline PR are ok too.
  • Acute awareness of the cultural environment (e.g. media, trends, etc.) of New York.
WHAT you’ll do --

All that needs to be done for http://dayguest.com to succeed. Small team means high impact. You will have broad responsibilities and not one function.

A non exhaustive list of what may be required from you :
  1. Communication: define and implement our PR strategy, finding, calling (you must not be shy!)  and emailing influencers, journalist, bloggers. We need to get covered!
  2. Marketing: online/offline, monitoring of KPIs on google analytics/adwords, SEO/SEM, community management (social media, forum posting, etc.).
  3. Project management: checking our product is functional and developed up to specs, checking our telesales are doing a good job contracting hotels, checking and editing our content where necessary.
  4. Business development:  source and find new partners, implement partnerships.
HOW MUCH--

We’re not funded yet and don’t pay ourselves so, alas, it will be a meager 436,05€/month. However, there is no limit to HOW MUCH you can learn and the impact you may have.

What now?

To apply, three things:
  1. Send your resume - in English or French, doesn’t matter
  2. In the email (not a separate file), write a couple of concise paragraph stating (1) why you want to join our team and (2) any relevant experience or demonstrated personality trait you have, if any.

Warning: Generic cut/paste applications will be discarded summarily.

  3. You’ll also mention the orthographic/grammar/syntax mistakes we made in the job description, if any, and how long you spend on the internet every day.
