Short title: RES Forecasting
Subject: Forecasting of Renewable Energy Systems
Key-words:
Time Series Forecasting, Applied Mathematics, Wind Energy, Photovoltaic Energy
Context:
Security of supply, environmental aspects, economic competitiveness are among the driving forces of the reorganisation taking place nowadays in the electricity sector in Europe. This reorganisation implies an evolution of the infrastructures from a centralised configuration to a more decentralised one, where a huge penetration of renewable energies in the power systems is projected. This constitutes an important technological challenge for the next decades.
The power production of renewable energy systems (RES) (wind, solar etc) depends on the weather conditions. For that reason, forecasting for the next hours or days such production is recognised as a major requirement for a secure and economic integration of RES into power systems. Such forecasts are necessary for a large number of applications linked to the management of power systems or to trading RES production into electricity markets.
The CEP develops research activities on wind power forecasting since early '90s and is recognised today as one of the main actors in the field. It is the coordinator of several international projects either at the industrial or the research level.
Objectives:
The candidate to be appointed will carry out research on the development of approaches for forecasting the power output of renewable power sources (i.e. wind, photovoltaic). Emphasis will be given among others on methods for estimating the uncertainty of such forecasts and also on extreme events.
Partners and collaborations:
The position offers opportunities for strong collaboration with other R&D groups, laboratories and industrials at European and international level (i.e. through projects like Anemos, Anemos.plus, SafeWind)
......
Profile:
Background in at least one of the following fields is requested:
Expected also:
experience in programming languages like Matlab or C++,
good communication skills both orally and in written English, suitable for scientific publications and public presentations of research work.
The positions in "RES forecasting" are open for different levels of experience.
Location: Centre for Energy & Processes (CEP), ARMINES - ECOLE DES MINES DE PARIS, Sophia Antipolis site (06 - France).
Duration: The position is initially available as a contract of predefined duration.
Starting date : as soon as possible.
Salary: The salary offered for a full-time appointment to this position will depend on qualifications and experience.
How to apply:
