Short title: SmartGrids
Subject:
Smart Integration of Distributed Generation and Renewables into Power Systems
Key-words:
Distributed Generation, Renewable Energies, Management of Power Systems, Planning of Distributed Generation, Electricity Markets, Microgrids, Virtual Power Plants.
Context:
Security of supply, environmental aspects, economic competitiveness are among the driving forces of the complex reorganisation of the electricity sector in Europe. This reorganisation implies an evolution of the infrastructures from a centralised configuration to a more decentralised one where a huge penetration of renewable energies in the power systems is projected. Renewables and other power sources, storage devices and demand side management options are expected also to be developed in LV networks. Such integration constitutes an important technological challenge for the next decades.
Research priorities focus on the modelling, operation, management and planning of power systems with large shares of distributed generation taking into account constraints like the complete liberalization of the electricity markets and advances in information and communication technology.
The CEP has developed for many years research activities in that direction with focus on island or interconnected systems, and also on the microgrids concept at LV level.
Objectives :
The candidate to be appointed will carry out research on topics such as :
Management of power systems with high share of intermittent power sources following the stochastic paradigm (i.e. stochastic optimisation methods). Applications to problems such as reserves estimation, scheduling of power systems, trading in electricity markets...
Optimal coordination of renewable energy sources with storage systems.
Centralised or decentralised management of microgrids.
Partners and collaborations:
The position offers opportunities for strong collaboration with other R&D groups, laboratories and industrials at European and international level (i.e. through projects like More-Microgrids, Anemos.plus)
.....
Profile:
Background in at least one of the following fields is requested:
Expected also:
experience in programming languages like Matlab or C++,
good communication skills both orally and in written English, suitable for scientific publications and public presentations of research work.
The "SmartGrids" positions are open for different levels of experience.
